The intended target audience for this documentary is for anyone who is interested in motorcycling, bike and racing. This can be target at both a more mature and fairly young audience, this is because the adolescent age group would take inspiration from the range of jobs that are displayed throughout the documentary.
One technique that is used throughout this documentary is talking heads, talking heads is when someone is sat down in front of the camera and talks to the camera, responding to questions that the interviewer is asking them, this is present throughout the whole of the documentary as Guy Martin is always in front of the camera and telling us his story of how he got into racing and how he is feeling as it comes up to the big race.
A narrative technique that is present in this documentary would be the use of Binary Opposition, for example, the battle between racer vs racer is used and it is used and it builds the tension as it is what drives the whole documentary forward as it is all about the final race and who wins it. Moreover, life vs death would be another opposition that is present throughout the documentary, this opposition keeps the audience on their seat as it creates a dramatic atmosphere among the audience, because there is that fear that our protagonist could die when goes out to race.
This documentary is effective because it is a very informative and interesting documentary as clips of past races have been included in parts of the documentary which helps us get a more visual perspective of what motorcycling races are like and the harsh reality of what can happen to the contestants in them. The use of talking heads is effective as it keeps us interested and allows us to fully see our protagonists personality as well as him informing us of what is going on. This is a very effective documentary as it keeps you on the edge of your seat as towards the end of the documentary we see our protagonist fall off his bike and could potentially die, this is effective because it informs the audience of the dangers of racing, the reason is effective is because the use of the talking heads allows us to get close to our protagonist and sympathies with him, so when he fell off his bike it created very dramatic tension among the audience.
